"Mentor Moms," a program of Families First that matches mentor moms to moms of newborns, will start its next training session on Thurs, March 5, 2009 from 7 to 9 p.m. in Providence. There are four trainings in total. They are as follows: Thurs, March 5, Thurs, March 12, *Wed, March 18, & Thurs, March 26 - all from 7 to 9 p.m.
(*Please note: the 3/18 is on a Wed)
Families First is a 501(c)3 non profit that matches "mentor moms" to moms of newborns who may be at risk for or are already experiencing postpartum depression and to women who are in the late stages of pregnancy and are experiencing depression. At the core of our program are our dedicated and compassionate mentor moms who provide non-judgmental and compassionate care to their matched mom for approximately one hour a week for the first year. This relationship epitomizes the term, “mothering the mother” or as Families First puts it, “Moms Helping Moms."
Description: We serve all women in need, regardless of their insurance status or their ability to pay.
Volunteers participate in an 8-hour evening training that takes place over four weeks (2 hrs/week). As required for any home visitation program, our volunteers are background checked, have to be up to date on their immunizations, and tested for TB. We also require that they have car insurance and provide two references.
